You don't need more saved tutorials.
You need one painting to start with, one set of steps to follow, and a reason not to wander off halfway through.
If you keep meaning to paint landscapes but somehow end up with more saved tutorials than finished paintings, Serenity in Color is for you.
This online membership gives you a painting to do, a way to do it, and a reason to stop overthinking it.
What you get each month
Every month, you get one painting to focus on. Not twelve choices. Not a rabbit hole. One.
You’ll get a prerecorded step-by-step landscape tutorial so you can paint it from start to finish in your own time. You can pause when you need to and replay the bit where the brush went rogue.
Also included each month
Each month, you’ll get a downloadable that earns its keep — a supply list, reference guide, or something to help when the painting starts making threats.
You’ll also have access to the community, so you’re not left alone with the “is this ruined?” spiral.
Post your wonky tree, ask what happened to your sky, share the bit you’re secretly pleased with, or show the part that’s gone feral.
People can cheer you on, answer questions, and remind you the awkward middle is usually not the end.
Two starter resources so you’re not staring at a blank canvas like it owes you money
Start Here and Keep It Simple gives you the basic supply list and simple setup tips, so getting ready to paint does not become its own full-time job.
Your First Painting, No Drama helps you get past the blank canvas, finish your first painting, and keep going when it gets awkward halfway through.
Because it probably will. Most paintings do. That does not mean you’ve ruined it.
The finished painting looks calm. The middle usually has other ideas.
Why we made this
We’ve taught over 1,000 in-person students at Serenity in Color, and we’ve seen the same thing again and again.
Most people don't need to be naturally artistic before they begin. They need a clear project, real encouragement, and someone to tell them the wobbly middle is not the same as failure.
We’re Chris and Anna — both Certified Bob Ross Instructors. Chris leads the monthly tutorials, and we’ll both be in the community helping you keep going.
We made this membership for people who want to paint at home without trying to build a habit out of 47 saved videos and good intentions.
The path is simple
You start with one painting, one set of steps, and enough help to keep going when the middle gets weird.
With each project, things start to feel less mysterious. Supplies. Brushwork. What to do when something looks off.
Eventually, your paintings start to feel more like yours.
Not copied. Not perfect. Yours.
What students have said after painting with us in person
-
"I now have a painting that I can hang on my wall and proudly say, ‘I painted that.’"
— R.H..
-
“I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, but I was able to create a beautiful painting thanks to step by step guidance.”
— S.W. -
“With their step-by-step instruction, I have my own unique painting. It was something I was truly proud of.”
— W.B.
If saving tutorials was going to turn into a painting habit on its own, it probably would have done it by now.
This is not about collecting more tutorials and hoping motivation magically appears.
It’s about actually painting.
FAQ
Is this for complete beginners?
Yes. You do not need to be confident or experienced before you join. The tutorials are step-by-step, and you can pause, rewind, and take your time. No one is expecting you to arrive fully formed with a perfect tree.
Do I need to be good at painting already?
No. You need to be willing to start, follow the lesson, pause when you need to, and keep going when the painting gets awkward halfway through. Which it probably will. That does not mean you’ve ruined it.
What kind of paintings will we do?
The membership focuses on oil landscape painting, with one new step-by-step tutorial each month.
Is this a Bob Ross painting membership?
Not exactly. We’re Certified Bob Ross Instructors, and we use the wet-on-wet oil painting technique Bob Ross is known for, but the paintings are original Serenity in Color tutorials, not copies from The Joy of Painting.
Are the tutorials live or prerecorded?
They’re prerecorded, so you can paint when it suits you. Pause, rewind, replay the bit where the brush suddenly seemed to develop its own personality. No one is watching the clock.
How often do I get a new lesson?
You’ll get one new step-by-step landscape tutorial each month to start. As the membership grows, that may increase based on founding member feedback and what people actually want more of.
What else is included besides the tutorial?
You’ll have access to the community, where you can ask questions, share your painting, and get help when you hit the bit where everything looks slightly wrong and you’re tempted to blame the tree. You’ll also get a montly downloadable to help with your learning.
Can I ask questions?
Yes. You’ll have access to the community, where you can ask questions, share your painting, and get encouragement when your tree, sky, hill, or entire foreground starts making questionable choices.
What supplies do I need?
You’ll get guidance inside the membership, including a basic oil painting supply list. You do not need to buy half the art shop before you start.
What if I fall behind?
You can pause, come back later, and no one in a cardigan is standing there with a clipboard looking disappointed.
Who is teaching the tutorials?
Chris teaches the monthly landscape tutorials.
We’re Chris and Anna, both Certified Bob Ross Instructors. Chris leads the lessons, and we’ll both be in the community to help you keep going, answer questions, and get past the bits that look questionable halfway through.
Can I sell the painting I make?
Yes. The painting you create is yours, and you can sell it if you want to.
What you can’t do is use our tutorials, projects, or lesson materials to teach your own classes. Paint it, enjoy it, sell it if you like — just don’t turn the membership lessons into your own teaching material.
When does founding member enrollment close?
Founding member enrollment closes on 25 May at 23:59. After that, the doors close while we get started with the first group.
Will the price go up later?
Yes. This is the founding member price, and it’s the lowest the membership price will be. As more lessons and resources are added, the price will go up. Founding members keep their lower rate for as long as their membership stays active.
What does founding member pricing mean?
Founding member pricing is $27 a month. You’ll get the lessons, downloads, and community from the start — plus a say in what comes next. Tell us what you want more of, what you could do without, and where the lessons need a bit more hand-holding.
You’ll keep that price for as long as your membership stays active. If you cancel and rejoin later, you’ll rejoin at whatever the current price is then.
Can I cancel?
Yes. You can cancel your membership. No dramatic exit music required.
Is this the same as an in-person class?
No. This is an online membership with prerecorded tutorials, downloads, and a community where you can ask questions and share your work.
It will not replace the feel of being in the room, but it gives you a way to keep painting at home without starting from scratch every time.
