I've always had a soft spot for tree frogs. There is something endlessly charming about the way they sit so quietly on a branch, tucked into the leaves, just watching the world move around them.

When I sat down to paint Sonny, I wanted to capture that curious, wide-eyed stillness. His body is painted with crisp details, from the subtle blue and purple highlights on his belly to the tiny yellow pads on his toes gripping the dark bark.

To give the piece its energy, I paired his sharp detail with a fluid, swirling background. The marbled layers of deep forest green, moss, and lime mimic the feeling of dense jungle foliage reflected in water. On a round canvas, the whole composition feels like looking through a quiet little portal into nature.
