Tina — Original Emperor Moth Oil Painting on 8" Round Canvas

Moths are not all sad brown things flinging themselves at lamps. I have learned this, and I owe them an apology.

Tina is an 8" original oil painting on round canvas — a bold little emperor moth with yellow and red markings, delicate wing details, and the sort of presence that makes an 8-inch painting feel very sure of itself.

This painting started with full nerd research mode, a book on moths and butterflies, and the mildly inconvenient realization that I may actually like moths more. Annoying, when a whole category of creature proves you wrong.

The emperor moth was the one that stopped me. That yellow and red contrast does not exactly fade into the wallpaper, and the tiny eye markings got tricky fast. Right around the point where painting becomes less “how lovely” and more “right, we’re doing this properly then.”

There’s also this: an adult emperor moth only lives for about a week and doesn’t eat at all. It lives on the energy it stored as a caterpillar. Shows up fully dressed, gets on with it, no snack break, gone almost as quickly as it arrived. Slightly rude scheduling.

That detail gives Tina her pull: bright, brief, and completely herself. She’s the kind of small original painting that gives a room something to notice without making the whole place rearrange itself around her.

She’s only 8", so Tina is better close by than stranded on a wall you barely look at. Let her live where you can notice the eye markings, the red and yellow, the tiny bit of drama — somewhere the house goes quiet for half a minute.
